"One minute to always protect you", the comic from the Ribera group on the importance of hand hygiene

    • The illustrated strip has been distributed in all the pediatric consultations of the group's health centers
    • The comic aims to raise awareness about the importance of a correct hand washing technique, since it minimizes the risk of contagion of viruses

The health group Ribera has published a comic that highlights the importance of proper hand hygiene to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the spread of viruses and other germs. "One minute to always protect you" is the name of the illustrated strip that has been distributed in all the pediatric consultations of the health centers managed by the group, on the occasion of World Hand Hygiene Day.

Throughout the cartoons, we can see how a girl who is playing in the park is aware of the importance of washing her hands well before going home with her grandmother. The objective of this action is to promote a culture on the correct habit of hand hygiene in the environment of the patient and her family, as well as in the general public of the areas of influence of the university hospitals of VinalopoTorrevieja y Torrejonas well as hospitals Ribera PovisaRibera PolusaSanta Justa Bank and Ribera Almendralejo, even more so in the context of the pandemic in which we find ourselves.

In this sense, the Patient Safety Area and the Preventive Medicine Service of the hospitals and health departments managed by the Ribera group have carried out an internal campaign to make professionals aware of the importance of perfecting the technique of hand washing. For this, in several centers an ultraviolet light machine has been installed in which, after washing their hands, the professionals put their hands in to check if it has been done correctly. This device detects the presence of germs on the hands, fingers and wrists and allows detecting which areas are more likely to be left without proper washing.

“Throughout this year of the pandemic, both patients and users in general are increasingly aware of the importance of performing this action frequently and correctly and, for this reason, it is essential to take advantage of the commemoration of this day to carry out campaigns that promote a culture of hand hygiene”, pointed out José Fernández de Maya, head of patient safety at various hospitals in the Ribera group.
