Ribera Salud shows its commitment for another year with the Escoleta Matinal de Nazaret

The Group renews its collaboration agreement with the Foundation for Justice.

    • For the last five years, the Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados school, located in the Nazaret neighborhood, has offered a morning class and academic and psychological support to families with a higher level of absenteeism and low academic performance.
    • According to the school management, “the level of schooling in the Nazaret neighborhood is one of the lowest in Valencia. Likewise, the school failure rate is one of the highest in the city.”

The Ribera Salud group has renewed its annual agreement with the Foundation for Justice which has among its main social projects the Escoleta Matinal de Nazaret. Through this agreement, Ribera Salud contributes one more year so that this project can be developed at the Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados school.

To Angélica Alarcón, Head of Communication and CSR, “We have been collaborating in this initiative for 4 years and we are very satisfied with the results obtained, because it is a project that responds to Ribera Salud's commitment to society and its willingness to collaborate in the immediate environment”.

The Nazareth Morning Escoleta is a service offered by the Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados school to a group of 30 minors at risk of social exclusion in order to avoid school failure. management team selects students based on their academic performance and level of absenteeism. However, families can also apply directly at the center's secretariat. This request is subsequently assessed by the management of the center. The morning classroom offers a service to families who for various reasons (work, family, etc.) are forced to leave their children at school before school begins. In addition to receiving school support, doing sports activities and learning basic hygiene measures such as brushing teeth, minors can also have breakfast if they have not done so at home.

    Project evolution

The initiative was launched in the 2013-2014 academic year and was focused exclusively on meeting the basic food and hygiene needs of children. As of the academic year 2014-2015 they were implemented leisure and sports activities related to the culture of peace. According to Izabel Rigo, project director of the Foundation for Justice: “These children live in an environment where social conflicts predominate. We detected a repeated behavior and we had to work on it”.

In 2016, The Nazareth Morning Escoleta went one step further and included among its activities the celebration of monthly counseling and support meetings for parents/caregivers and psychological care. For Izabel Rigo, the results of the 'Breakfasts with the Mothers' are very positive. “There is a very good response on their part. They interact, share their experiences, listen attentively and ask questions. They also actively participate in choosing the topics for the following meetings and in the evaluation of the meetings”.

The project has, for the 2018-2019 academic year, the support of Bankia and the Valencia City Council, in addition of the Ribera Salud group and volunteering, which this year is already 20 people. "We would love to develop this project in other centers in Valencia, whose reality is very similar to that experienced by the children of Nazareth, but for that we have to get the necessary support", has pointed out Izabel Rigo.
