Ribera Salud recommends a mask for pediatric patients and leaving children under 3 years of age in the car when they go to the consultations

    • The hospitals of the health group prepare a decalogue with measures that help to avoid infections and guarantee safety in the waiting rooms of Pediatric consultations.
    • Minors will only be accompanied by an adult, who must guarantee their own social distance and that of the child.

The pediatricians of Ribera Health They recommend that their pediatric patients wear a mask to go to the consultations and advise their parents to keep children under three years of age in the car or on their arms. These are two of the measures included in a catalog, prepared by Ribera Salud Pediatrics professionals, to help prevent contagion and guarantee safety in waiting rooms on the return to normal care.

All health centers Ribera Health have resumed face-to-face activity in consultations, including the Pediatric services of the university hospitals of Vinalopo, Torrevieja y Torrejon, hospital Povisa (Vigo) and Santa Justa Bank (Badajoz), as well as the consultations of the health centers managed by this health group in the health departments of Torrevieja and Vinalopó. With the aim of helping to prevent infections and that the smallest patients and their families feel safe, pediatric professionals have established recommendations that will facilitate agility and normal functioning in children's consultations.

In addition to recommending the use of a mask for the child, the pediatricians of Ribera Health remember that the mask is mandatory for the minor's companion, which is limited to a single adult to facilitate social distancing in waiting rooms and in consultations. All the group's health centers have made masks available to patients if they arrive at the center without one and can be requested at the Admission service. In addition, the little ones must be under close supervision at all times by the person with whom they live. “Children under three years of age have to remain in their carts, carrycots, strollers or, failing that, in the arms of the adult with whom they come. Those over the age of three will do so in the chair immediately next to the adult with whom they come to the center”, explains Dr. Gonzalo Ros, head of the Ribera Salud Pediatric Service at the Torrevieja and Vinalopó hospitals.

All pediatric areas have hydroalcoholic solutions to perform hand hygiene for children and adults, and it is recommended to maintain a safety distance of 1.5 meters from any other person, as well as that the adult take responsibility for the minor also maintaining that distance with other patients and their companions. "In addition, it is important that adults help children understand the importance of good respiratory hygiene and that when coughing or sneezing they know that it is vitally important to cover their mouth and nose with a flexed elbow, and failing that, with a handkerchief that must be disposed of quickly”, adds the head of the Pediatric service.

"Our objective is that all patients, regardless of their age or service, comply with the rules of distancing and hygiene," explains Dr. Fernando Sánchez Perales, head of the Pediatrics service at the Torrejón University Hospital. “The most important thing is that the minor is only accompanied by an adult, so that many people don't crowd the waiting rooms,” he says.

If at any time patients feel safer in larger spaces, the Ribera Salud hospitals facilitate waiting in the general waiting rooms or annexed spaces, as well as outside the health center, prior notice to the staff on display or of nursing. "Going to the pediatric consultations at the Ribera Salud centers is safe if we all adopt the necessary measures to help prevent contagion and make it easier for families to feel that the child and the person accompanying her are safe," explains Dr. Ros. However, remember that the YoSalud mobile application, which is already implemented in a large part of the hospitals of the health group, "has allowed the professionals of the Pediatric Service to resolve many doubts of families throughout this period, avoid unnecessary trips to our patients and their parents and give a lot of peace of mind due to the exhaustive follow-up of each child and each case”. Through YoSalud, after consulting their pediatrician online, families can carry out any administrative procedure: from requesting and receiving a vaccination certificate for children's schooling, enrollment in sports schools or conservatories, to obtaining prescriptions, prescriptions or the optional indications for the prolongation of treatments
