- Its central laboratory, located in Torrellano (Elche), has managed to be accredited with the UNE EN ISO 15189:2013 standard for a large part of the processes carried out, which confirms its commitment to quality and technical and management rigor.
- Its director, Mayte Alarcón, assures that "it is the reward for effort and daily work and positions us among the best cytogenetic laboratories nationwide"
Ribera Lab, the laboratory division of the Ribera healthcare group, has achieved UNE EN ISO 15189:2013 accreditation for a large part of the techniques carried out in its central laboratory, Cialab, located in Torrellano (Elche), ten minutes from Alicante-Elche airport. The accreditation process, "very ambitious and complex, and which would not have been possible without the involvement of the entire team", confirms Ribera Lab's commitment to quality and technical and management rigor in its processes.
The scope of the accreditation encompasses the areas of Cytogenetics and Molecular Biology, among others, and demonstrates that it meets all the requirements of this standard and that it is capable of solvently carrying out the activities included within the scope of this laboratory. According to Mayte Alarcón, director of Ribera Lab, "this very demanding recognition is the reward for the effort and work we do every day and positions us in a privileged place among Cytogenetics laboratories nationwide." "We have worked exhaustively to comply with the requirements of the standard in all aspects: management system, pre-analytics, analytics, post-analytics, resource management, quality assurance and information management," she says.
The Cytogenetics area has accredited all the techniques in the area: prenatal, constitutional and hematological karyotyping, oncohematological FISH of bone marrow, peripheral blood, paraffin tissue and imprinting, Cytoscan 750k SNPs Array and Cytoscan Optima.
The Molecular Biology area, for its part, has been accredited in different scopes that encompass almost all the techniques used for the genetic diagnosis of patients. The scope includes prenatal studies of aneuploidies using QFPCR, Triplet Expansion for FRDA and XFragil, ARMS Cystic Fibrosis, MLPA for various syndromes, and Sanger and NGS sequencing for detection of mutations associated with hereditary diseases.
Ribera Lab has a specialized multidisciplinary team, with different profiles, including analysts, technicians, microbiologists, geneticists, or nursing staff. In total, it has a staff of 66 professions, 47 located in its central laboratory and 19 in peripheral laboratories. In 2021, it carried out more than half a million determinations and almost 130.000 PCR's. He specializes in constitutional, prenatal and onco-haematological cytogenetics, as well as in molecular biopathology of hereditary, infectious and onco-haematological diseases, as well as all kinds of analyzes related to the areas of Allergology, Cardiology, Digestive, Endocrinology, Gynecology, Hematology, Nephrology, Neurology, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Oncology and Toxicology.
