Ribera promotes the rotations of the MIR and specialists in health centers of international reference

    • Its teaching commissions have already managed more than 300 external rotations of residents and specialists in different hospitals in Spain but also in Munich, Copenhagen, New York or Toronto. We collect some testimonials of their experiences
    • Ribera guarantees two million a year for the training of its professionals, including the MIR, compared to the change of model, approved in July, which leaves the courses in the hands of the public administrations

Ribera prioritizes the continuous training of its workers as an important part of the development of the professional career and to promote the recruitment and loyalty of talent among health professionals, including resident doctors. For them, the teaching committees of the group's health centers have managed in recent years more than 300 external rotations in different reference hospitals in Spain, but also in Europe and the United States.

Ribera's objective is to go beyond covering the training needs of residents and health professionals in their own health centers, and offer them a plus in their professional curriculum. Hence the impetus for this type of rotations that, to date, have been organized in the institutions and services chosen by the professionals themselves in the Pediatric Orthopedic and Traumatology Surgery Unit of the La Fe University Hospital (Valencia), the Ophthalmology Unit of the Rigshospitalet at Copenhagen University Hospital, the Shoulder Interventional Unit of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, the Thoracic Radiodiagnosis Unit of the Klinnidum der Universitat Munchen, Germany, the Radiodiagnosis Unit of the Keck Hjospital of University Southern California or the Unit of Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Segment Surgery at the University of Toronto.

Faced with the change in the training model, approved by the Congress of Deputies last July, and which leaves the courses and general training of resident doctors in the hands of public administrations and their budgets, the health group has put value the wide range of training that guarantees the MIR, as well as all its professionals, with an annual budget of two million.

This legislative change expressly prohibits the industry (mainly pharmaceutical but also related to health equipment) from financing any type of training activity, so that health professionals in the public network must request and manage training through their respective competent regional administrations. in Health.

Dr. Esther Cánovas carried out an external rotation at The Fetal Medicine Research Institute in London last year, an experience that she describes as "a unique opportunity" as well as "a challenge, but extremely enriching". “Not only was I able to see how far the diagnosis of fetal anomalies and their treatment can go and soak up the broad field of research in maternal-fetal medicine, but also experience how it works in other hospitals and countries,” she says. Her colleague, Dr. Lucía Rial, did a rotation at the Rigshospitalet Copenhagen University Hospital in 2017 and explains that this experience brought her "curiosity to learn and study new techniques", which she has since been able to put into practice at the Torrevieja University Hospital

In the case of the Ribera health centers that are part of the public network of hospitals in the Valencian Community and the Madrid region, the management of training is the responsibility of the concessionaire, Ribera itself, and therefore does not depend on public budgets, which makes it possible to guarantee the investment committed in training.

Doctor Hugo Marquina is also clear about this after his external rotation in 2017 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. “I had the opportunity to see and learn new surgical techniques in sports pathology, exchange both personal and professional experiences, culturally learn about the day-to-day life of an intense and long working day, and broaden my vision of comprehensive healthcare and how a healthcare system works. different," he says. In similar terms, Dr. Pablo Grau values his experience, who in his last year of Residency did a rotation at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, one of the best hospitals for orthopedic surgery and traumatology in the United States. "It was a great experience for my training as a traumatologist and I was able to learn how a different healthcare system works."

To date, another 53 rotations have been requested that will be carried out until 2023 in international reference centers such as Hospital La Paz or Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid, Hospital Clínic in Barcelona or Clinics Essen - Mitte in Germany, among others. This wide range of training has contributed to the fact that more than 40 physicians have achieved the qualification of specialists in the different accredited teaching units in the university hospitals of Torrevieja and Vinalopo. The Torrejón University Hospital It has received the first residents in its history this year, coinciding with its ninth anniversary and has recently obtained accreditation to extend MIR training to three other specialties.
