El Ribera healthcare group It is committed to personalized music therapy to humanize care for different groups of patients, such as those who need dialysis or attend chemotherapy sessions. This is an initiative that Ribera has launched, through a channel on Spotify, in most of its nine hospitals, and that it will gradually extend to the 60 Primary Care centers that it manages and its seven clinics in different Spanish provinces. .

And it is that music stimulates many brain areas, such as those responsible for memory, movement and mood, according to a report by the Global Council on Brain Health (GCBH). Music also increases neural communication, can improve sleep, fatigue level and memory, as well as stimulate thinking skills, which helps maintain brain health. The music profile on Spotify of the Ribera health group also includes lists for other groups of patients, such as those who seek to relax, have to drive to the hospital, visit a relative in the hospital, have insomnia problems or even want music for work or to do a healthy activity. Little by little new playlists will be added, for example, for pregnant women, to enjoy breastfeeding and also for children.

In the context of World Health Day, the group's healthcare professionals have been involved in promoting music through this channel, explaining to their patients how music helps reduce levels of anxiety, pain and emotional changes in their patients, as demonstrated by different studies and also their daily clinical practice. "Also during the toughest waves of this pandemic, with patients hospitalized for many weeks due to Covid, we have verified the power of music to improve all hemodynamic parameters," says Dr. Mari Cruz Martín, head of the Intensive Care service at the Torrejón University Hospital.

And it is that how music acts on our brain influences, for example, the reduction of cortisol levels, the stress-related hormone, and helps release endorphins, which act as natural painkillers. In addition, due to its relaxing effect, it helps patients who suffer from migraines or headaches and, according to a study by the American Society of Hypertension, it can even help reduce blood pressure.

This is a transversal project, which will be offered in different areas and for patients in their leisure time or with various pathologies: from mental health problems such as Alzheimer's to admissions for various interventions, with the aim of reducing the level of stress and anxiety. It is also planned to apply and promote music therapy in patients with brain injuries, acute and chronic pain and with those who make frequent and long-term visits to hospitals, such as those receiving chemotherapy or dialysis treatment.

In addition to the music profile, the Ribera healthcare group has launched a monographic monthly podcast on Spotify, A coffee to your health, with information, advice and interviews on different current issues. The two already published podcasts bring together healthcare professionals around two hot topics: mental health and breast cancer. The third installment, which will be published at the beginning of May, will address the great work of Primary Care professionals with chronic patients such as those with diabetes.
