Health inspections conclude that there is no evidence to indicate reuse of single-use medical products
- Technicians from the General Directorate of Health Inspection and Regulation visited the center today and met with those responsible for Preventive Medicine, Hemodynamic Cardiology and Sterilization, who denied this practice.
- They have also reviewed the records of the sterilization center, verified the material stored in the cardiology-hemodynamics unit, and inspected the waste and storage areas.
Inspections carried out this Friday by the Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid, through the General Directorate of Health Inspection and Regulation, conclude that there is no evidence indicating reuse of single-use health products at the University Hospital of Torrejón.
In response to today's news reports regarding the possible reuse of catheters used in cardiology-hemodynamics, technicians from the Directorate traveled to the center first thing this morning to conduct an inspection and objectively verify the situation. They met with the heads of Preventive Medicine, Cardiology-Hemodynamics, and Sterilization. They have denied the existence of any reprocessing practices for this type of material.
The inspectors have carried out a review of the sterilization center records, without any record of processes applied to single-use disposable materials, as stated in the Directorate's executive report. They have also carried out the verification of stored material in the cardiology-hemodynamics unit, confirming that the available catheters have CE marking and come from manufacturers. Finally, they performed a inspection of waste and storage areas, confirming that there is no previously used single-use material outside of the containers intended for its disposal.
The report concludes that the inspections carried out at the center revealed "no evidence indicating the reuse of single-use medical devices." The review of records, available materials, and waste disposal areas is consistent with the statements made by the management team and the units involved.
