The tenth meeting of the Patient Council of Ribera Povisa, the health group hospital Ribera in Vigo, had as its central axes the presentation of the hospital choir project and the activities carried out by the Huntington Galicia Association, the invited association on this occasion.
11 associations from the metropolitan area of Vigo have participated in this tenth meeting of the Patients' Council, a body that was launched in May 2022, with the aim of creating a space for dialogue between patients and health professionals on current issues that they worry the most.
In this session, Pablo Pérez, musician and worker at the Ribera Povisa logistics service, presented the hospital choir project that has just been launched and in which both professionals and patients of the center can participate. The intention is to use the power of music to connect people outside the hospital setting, creating bonds and improving group musical abilities.
On the other hand, the Huntington Galicia Association has been the protagonist of this session and has presented dissemination and awareness activities about a disease that is still very unknown, despite being the third most important neuropathology after Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. It affects 4.000 people in Spain and appears around the age of 35-40, with a life expectancy of between 15 and 20 years after its appearance. It is a genetic, hereditary and degenerative disease, so that patients gradually lose their cognitive and motor abilities.
During the meeting, the Director of Nursing at the Ribera Povisa hospital, Cristina Serra, presented some new developments and projects that the center is working on to improve the quality of care.
The final touch of the event was put on by the Huntington Galicia Association, which performed the play “Living with Huntington” in the Ribera Povisa Hospital Assembly Hall, with the intention of raising awareness about this disease among those attending.
