Vigo, February 15, 2024.- Ribera Povisa, the health group hospital Ribera In Vigo, it organized the ninth meeting of the Patients' Council, which had as its central focus the presentation of the nurse case managers from the different units and the work they perform in caring for patients and their families.
20 associations from the metropolitan area of Vigo have participated in this ninth meeting of the Patients' Council, a body that was launched in May 2022, with the aim of creating a space for dialogue between patients and health professionals on current issues that they worry the most.
In this session, the three associations that have just joined were presented, bringing the number of entities that are part of the Patient Council of the Ribera Povisa Hospital to 29. The newcomers are: Xoga, a social initiative entity for the representation of the interests of people with sensory diversity; Superheroes of Morrazo, association in support of functional diversity, and AFIMO, association of people affected by fibromyalgia in the province of Pontevedra.
During the meeting, the Ribera Povisa hospital presented nurse case managers, a key figure in improving care for chronic patients or long-term treatments. The hospital has 10 managers in the following units: Rheumatology cases, Pulmonology, Neurology, Radiation Oncology, Complex Chronic Patient, Surgical, Palliative, Onco-Hematology Cases and Breast Unit, inflammatory bowel diseases and digestive tumors, and coordination continuity of care in Primary Care. These professionals are the main point of contact with the hospital to follow up on appointments, treatments, and to resolve doubts that may arise in all hospital processes.
Another highlight of the day was the presentation of Football on foot, by its director and promoter, José María Rial. This initiative, which has its origins in Cangas, proposes a safer practice of football for people of any age, gender or physical condition but who, for whatever reason, cannot practice this sport in a traditional way. The main difference is that running is not allowed, promoting a low-impact, low-risk sporting activity to improve physical condition, encouraging fun and socialization.
The Director of Nursing, Cristina Serra, has highlighted the importance of the Patient Council meetings to disseminate the news and new initiatives launched by the hospital, while resolving any doubts that may arise from patients and family members. .
