The Ribera Povisa Hospital has initiated a strategic collaboration with Dr. Manuel Ruibal to launch an ambitious robotic surgery program using the Da Vinci Xi system, with the aim of positioning itself as a center of reference in this field.
In recent years, robotic surgery has made significant progress thanks to the incorporation of artificial intelligence tools that contribute to improving the precision and safety of procedures. However, as Dr. Ruibal points out, “the human factor remains crucial: the robot doesn't make decisions, but rather executes the surgeon's instructions, so success depends primarily on the professional's experience and skill.”
Dr. Manuel Ruibal, recently awarded the Pontevedra Citizen of the Year Prize in the Research, Science, and University category, is considered one of the most prominent urologists in Spain, backed by a solid career and extensive experience in robotic surgery. In this new phase, he will work alongside and in close collaboration with the current Urology team at Ribera Povisa Hospital.

The robotic surgery program begins in the Urology specialty, with plans to gradually expand to other areas such as general surgery and gynecology, among others.

In just over a decade, we have evolved from open surgery to laparoscopic surgery, and from there to robotic surgery, which currently represents the highest level of excellence,” concludes Dr. Ruibal.
