The Patients' Council of Ribera Povisa It held its fourteenth meeting, which focused on the work done in the oncohematology service and explained how the clinical trials carried out at the center work.
A total of 18 associations from the Vigo metropolitan area participated in this meeting. Patient Council, an organization that was launched in May 2022, with the aim of creating a space for dialogue between patients and healthcare professionals on the current issues that concern them most.
During the meeting, the hospital informed the associations about the research projects being carried out at the center and explained to patients how they can participate in clinical trials. Nurse Paula Martín, coordinator of clinical research and trials, answered all questions regarding the processes and benefits of participating in these studies.
Furthermore, ASOTRAME, the Galician Association of people who have undergone bone marrow transplants and suffered from oncohematological diseases, was the protagonist of this session and presented the activities they are carrying out.
During the meeting, attendees also gained an in-depth understanding of the oncohematology service. Alejandra Román, the oncohematology case manager nurse, detailed the processes and protocols used in this service and answered questions that arose during the presentation.
During the meeting, Cristina Serra, Director of Nursing at Ribera Povisa Hospital, emphasized the outstanding work of the hospital's nursing team and the value of their role in patient follow-up, early detection of instabilities, and care. She highlighted the effectiveness of the case management nurses, who serve as the point of contact and coordination between patients and the hospital, managing appointment schedules and resolving issues efficiently, thus avoiding unnecessary hospital visits.
