The Radiology Service of the Ribera Povisa Hospital is made up of 17 assistants and 4 residents. We are a service with an average age of 40 years where the youth of recently incorporated deputies is combined with the experience of the most veterans and, most importantly, with an exceptional work environment.

We are a central service equipped with high technology:

    – 3 1,5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance devices.

    – 1 double source multi-slice CT with 128 detectors, 1 multi-slice CT with 32 detectors.

    – 1 mammograph with tomosynthesis.

    – 5 state-of-the-art ultrasound machines.

    – Various rooms with digital conventional radiology equipment.

    – 1 interventional radiology room.

We have extensive experience in teaching with 28 years of experience in MIR training in Radiology, offering one or two MIR positions per year. In addition, we always have radiologists in training and specialists from other national and international hospitals (especially Portuguese and Latin American) in the service doing rotations and completing their training. Also to doctors of other specialties; internal medicine, anesthesia, family medicine, traumatology, surgery, cardiology, etc.) who complete their training with us in certain areas of knowledge.

The service is structured following a pattern by organs and clinical systems (Abdomen, Thorax-Cardio, Neck, Musculoskeletal, Neuroradiology, Breast and Vascular and Interventional) and the training is established on a rotating basis following these systems, without forgetting the teaching of the different radiological techniques.

The training program follows the guidelines of the Resident Training Program of the National Radiodiagnosis Commission and we achieved a program with general rotations and other more personalized optional rotations that serve to strengthen those rotations that had not been completed adequately, to deepen a field of knowledge (small subspecialization) or to learn about another quality radiology service (external rotations in university hospitals, AFIP, research programs).

All assistants are very involved in the training of the MIR and there are two tutors who are in charge of planning and managing all rotations as well as helping the resident in any situation that requires it.

    Sessions and seminars

Every morning there are clinical sessions where the resident presents a case from the area in which he is rotating, selected in accordance with the radiologist who supervises him. On Tuesdays the session is different, this day is a Case Reading Session, in which a member of the staff will present a case selected for the theoretical level of knowledge of each resident, who will have to read it and try to get the most out of it. possible match to the images provided.

Alternately, every Thursday there is a clinical-radiological session or a general hospital session. They are sessions open to the entire hospital and of great educational interest. In the clinical-radiological session, cases are presented by residents from different specialties, always one from radiology, to later establish a discussion about it. In the general sessions, different specialists from all services present a current topic that is general for the hospital.

On a monthly basis there are bibliographic sessions first thing in the morning, with variable dates.

Periodically there are interdisciplinary sessions of the different Tumor Committees where the resident also takes an active part in the presentation and discussion of the cases.

    Resident Responsibilities

From the beginning, keep in mind that your training is aimed at making you a radiologist. Knowledge of the specialty (semiology, technical adaptation, information integration) is very important, but there are other areas that you should not neglect.

    REGARDING THE EXPLORATIONS:

    • Review the rationale for the scans.
    • Adapt the examinations to the clinical justification.
    • Agree on work guidelines.
    • Protocol the imaging techniques suitable for each justification.
    • Decide on the use of contrasts and when, which, dose and rate at which they should be administered.

    REGARDING QUALITY AND QUALITY CONTROL:

    • Take care and demand optimal quality in the images generated.
    • Interpret and report the images obtained and the studies performed with the highest degree of confidence possible.
    • Maintain constant the quality of the reports and diagnoses issued.
    • Integrate information from the various modalities and techniques.
    • Establish and monitor an ongoing quality control program.

    REGARDING TEACHING AND RESEARCH:

    • Participate in Teaching and Research tasks.
    • Stay up to date with the latest advances in your professional field.

IN THE SERVICE AND IN THE HOSPITAL AND SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT:

    • Correctly inform patients (or family members) when they request their opinion.
    • Contribute to the motivation of your team and Service personnel.
    • Contribute to the optimal quantitative performance of the diagnostic means you use.
    • Participate in coverage of non-schedulable service scans.
    • Work on the coordination of your area with others in your Service and your Hospital or, where appropriate, with other Hospitals.
    • Recognize and accept the responsibility incurred if your work does not have the required quality.

    Guards

Initially, the on-calls are carried out in the Internal Medicine Service for the duration of this rotation (2 months). After and until the end of the residency, they are carried out in the Radiology Service. During the shift, the studies carried out both during the morning and the rest of the day are reported. There is always a staff radiologist on call with you from 15 p.m. on weekdays and all day on holidays.

    Courses, conferences and publications.

The service promotes and facilitates the participation of residents in the National Congress of the Spanish Society of Medical Radiology, with great success since we are a service that generally receives awards for the works exhibited.

Also on an individual basis, it is recommended to attend other courses and conferences of interest to the resident in training.

Another of the resident's objectives is to finish their training with at least one publication in a journal indexed in Pubmed.
