Vigo, June 26, 2026 – In its commitment to innovation, Ribera Povisa Hospital has incorporated the Philips BlueSeal XE Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, representing a giant leap forward in the center's technological capabilities. This new machine improves the patient experience and facilitates the work of technical and medical staff.
As for its main technical advances, the Philips BlueSeal XE is characterized by its sustainability, as it consumes less energy and does not need to use helium, eliminating the consumption of this material that is scarce in nature and whose use is not without dangers due to the existence of a potential risk such as its massive escape (quench).
Furthermore, this machine incorporates significant advances in AI, obtaining faster and clearer images, which makes it possible to see all types of lesions better, which is an advantage for the correct diagnosis of patients.
The benefits are numerous, not only in diagnosis but also in patient comfort and in reducing the stress associated with these tests. Here are some of its many advantages:
Claustrophobia reduction: It features an extra-large tunnel (gantry) 70 cm in diameter, providing a greater sense of spaciousness and openness.
Intelligent silence (ComfortTone): reduces the usual noise of an MRI by up to 80%.
Much faster tests: thanks to AI technology, studies can be performed up to 3 times faster, reducing the time the patient has to remain motionless inside the machine.
Shorter apnea time: for abdominal studies, the speed of the equipment allows reducing the duration of breathing pauses (for example, from 15 to 10 seconds), making the test easier for patients with breathing difficulties.
Relaxing environment: includes the Ambient Ring, a warm LED light ring that creates a more pleasant atmosphere, along with the possibility of listening to personalized music through headphones.
Voice guidance (AutoVoice): the system guides the patient with clear and automatic instructions, in their language, on table movements or breath-holds, reducing anxiety.
Ergonomics and comfort: It has a 60 mm thick ComfortPlus viscoelastic mattress and extremely light and flexible coils (receptors) that gently adapt to the patient's body without causing pressure points.
Safety with implants: the ScanWise Implant tool allows for safer and faster testing of patients with prostheses or implants.
It is important to note that, to ensure patients are not inconvenienced, the service will remain operational during the six weeks of installation of the new MRI machine at the hospital, thanks to a mobile unit with a high-field MRI scanner located on Tarragona Street. This will allow for uninterrupted patient appointments and prevent an increase in waiting lists.
