The Ribera Povisa hospital is committed to innovation and incorporates new technology in Magnetic Resonance Imaging

News published by La Voz de Galicia

The Radiology Department of the Ribera Povisa hospital, led by Dr. Francisco TardáguilaHe is known nationally as one of the leading scientific figures, with a strong presence in professional forums in the field and with highly prestigious professionals.

    Technology as a differentiating factor

Technology is an essential element in a specialty characterized by its fundamentally technological nature. "If you want to diagnose pathologies in the coronary arteries, the prostate, or the ligaments, for example, you need technology that allows you to see them accurately. I believe the most important thing is the quality of the radiologists, but it's obvious that, in order to diagnose correctly, they must have the appropriate machines that allow them to see the manifestations of diseases with increasing clarity," explains Dr. Francisco Tardáguila, head of the Radiology Department at Ribera Povisa.

Therefore, in its commitment to innovation, the Ribera Povisa Hospital, with the support of its management, has incorporated the Philips BlueSeal XE Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, representing a giant leap forward in the center's technological capabilities. This new machine improves the patient experience and facilitates the work of the technical and medical staff.

    Advantages of Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Regarding its main technical advances, and as described by Dr. Tardáguila, "the machine is characterized by its sustainability and its advances in AI, which allow for faster and clearer images. This tool makes it possible to see all types of lesions better, which is an advantage for accurate diagnosis."

The benefits are numerous, not only in diagnosis but also in comfort, as its technology promotes well-being and helps reduce the stress associated with diagnostic tests. Among its advantages are the spacious tunnel, noise reduction, speed of the tests, the relaxing environment, and the ergonomic mattress.

Temporary solution to care for patients while the technology is being changed

It is important to note that, "to ensure patients are not inconvenienced, during the six weeks it takes to install the new MRI machine at the hospital, the service will remain operational thanks to a mobile unit with a high-field MRI located on Tarragona Street. This way, appointments will not be interrupted, thus preventing an increase in waiting lists," the doctor explains.

It focuses on innovation and training

"Radiology professionals have distinguished careers and enjoy significant prestige in their fields. Furthermore, they combine patient care with scientific and research work, which they present at major international conferences, such as the annual European Congress of Radiology held in Vienna or the American Congress in Chicago," says radiologist Francisco Tardáguila.

The service also carries out important teaching work. A significant number of resident physicians (MIR) from other Spanish, Portuguese, Latin American, etc. hospitals come to do rotations there, but it is not only medical staff who are trained, but also the rest of the team: technicians and assistants, and nursing staff, since the Povisa Study Center has been offering the Higher Level Vocational Training Cycle in Diagnostic Imaging and Nuclear Medicine and the Intermediate Level Vocational Training Cycle for Nursing Assistant Technicians for years, in addition to the Nursing degree.

Furthermore, Ribera Povisa is the only private hospital that offers all possible examinations in its radiology services portfolio, including image post-processing, in which the different photographs are "assembled" and the complete piece is reconstructed in 3D for a more accurate diagnosis.

“At Ribera Povisa Hospital, we are committed to providing high-quality healthcare. This time, we have chosen to install a new machine in the Radiology Department, which significantly increases patient comfort. We are investing in the most innovative technology across all areas. Both our staff and our technology are of excellent quality, which translates into accurate assessment, diagnosis, and follow-up care for our patients,” concludes Dr. Ángela Guerra, Managing Director of Ribera Povisa Hospital.
