Internal Medicine

The Ribera Povisa Hospital is the largest private hospital in Spain. It has more than 350 working beds and has all specialties except Cardiac Surgery. 

It has achieved numerous accreditations for quality, safety and innovation, including the Joint Commission International, the most prestigious quality accreditation worldwide.

Its most important activity is caring for public health patients in relation to the agreement that exists with the Galician Health Service, through which it provides hospital care to more than 130.000 people.

Since 2009, the Internal Medicine Service has trained Resident Internal Physicians in this specialty. This fact has posed an organizational challenge that has stimulated the members of the service and all the hospital staff in general, achieving a high degree of satisfaction among the residents we have trained. Furthermore, all of them have found work in the field of their specialty, both in the public and private systems.

Our service is made up of 20 doctors, in addition to the MIRs (two per year). The care work is carried out equally by all members of the service, but there are areas of special dedication to both care and research, coordinated by different physicians: Hypertension and vascular risk, Thrombosis and vascular pathology, Autoimmune diseases, Infectious diseases, COVID-19 , Complex chronic patient, Hepatology, HIV/AIDS infection and Consulting of other specialties.

We have a close and fluid relationship with Home Hospitalization (a service also made up of internists) and Palliative Care, which favors continuity of care.

We also perform ultrasound, elastography, ABPM and capillaroscopy techniques, as well as pleural and peritoneal drainage.

Both students and MIRs of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or other specialties rotate exclusively with a doctor; This guarantees more personal attention.

One of the main advantages of the Internal Medicine service is that it assumes most of the hospital's medical hospitalization, except Cardiology, Hematology and Oncology. In this way, it represents the ideal destination for any internist doctor, since here you will be able to have a broad vision of the specialty, a fact that larger hospitals cannot provide. 

Every week we have several types of sessions: clinical cases, bibliographical, clinical-radiological and infectious diseases.

During the first year, the shifts are carried out in the Emergency Department, and the rest of the training period in Internal Medicine, where adequate supervision is always provided for the year of training.
