    María Giráldez, deputy director of the Ribera Povisa University School of Nursing, appointed member of the Galician Nursing Academy

    • María Giráldez has a long professional career as a care nurse, manager and teacher, and has been the deputy director of the Ribera Povisa Nursing EU since June 2020.
    • Graduated in 1995, specialist in Geriatric Nursing, María Giráldez also has a Master's Degree in Management and Administration of Nursing Services, and a Master's Degree in Methodology in behavioral and health sciences.

    The deputy director of the Ribera Povisa University School of Nursing, María Giráldez, has been named a member of the Galician Academy of Nursing as a corresponding academic for her outstanding professional work in the healthcare field, after a selection process that was carried out in a public call.

    “It is an honor to be admitted to the Academy and a great opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the profession, promoting research and education in the field of nursing, and also promoting its visibility and social recognition,” explains María Giráldez, with close 30 years of professional experience.

    “It is a great responsibility to assume this role, but also an important recognition of the work carried out during my career. "It has been many years, combining teaching and professional activity, also taking into account that all of this has had to be reconciled as a woman and working mother," says the deputy director of the EU of Nursing Ribera Povisa.

    “It has been and is a privilege to have contributed my grain of sand to seek progress and evolution of care. Currently, from the educational field, I try to awaken in future professionals the concern for research, quality and the need to have a critical attitude that motivates them to question the reasons for their actions and the guidelines for their care," he adds.

    María Giráldez received her medal and accreditation as Corresponding Academic in the Solemn Session of inauguration of the new academic year, held in the Assembly Hall of the Pazo de San Roque in Santiago de Compostela last January.

    In this event, a total of twelve new academics were welcomed (5 numeraries and 7 corresponding) who were admitted after the election process carried out in the Plenary held on December 15, 2023.

    The president of the Academy, Dr. Isidoro Rodríguez, and the treasurer, Dr. Lourdes Bermello, were in charge of presenting the medal, diploma and pin to the corresponding academics.

    María Giráldez graduated in 1995, in the second class of the EUE Povisa and since then she has developed her professional career in the Ribera Povisa hospital. Master in Management and Administration of Nursing Services from the University of Barcelona, ​​and Master in Methodology in behavioral and health sciences from the UNED, María is also a specialist in Geriatric Nursing and currently a PhD student at the University of Santiago de Compostela, developing his doctoral thesis: “Gender perspective and professional development in Nursing”.

    A teacher at the Ribera Povisa Nursing School since 2011, in June 2020 he assumed the Deputy Directorship of the Ribera Group teaching institution, a reference since 1991 in Vigo in the training of Nursing and Technicians.
