«The professionals of the Dermatology service are responsible for the care of our skin, as well as the prevention and treatment of skin diseases.»

At Ribera Povisa, our team made up of dermatologists, assistants and nurses take care of the comprehensive care of our skin. Always starting from personalized and close attention, where the patient is evaluated comprehensively, a complete medical history and an exhaustive physical examination are performed. They also complement the approach with the necessary diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, cultures for microorganisms, imaging tests or skin biopsy and its corresponding pathological study.

Once the skin pathology is diagnosed, they are responsible for its medical, surgical treatment or other therapeutic options such as cryotherapy, electrosurgery or phototherapy. In this way, all types of dermatological diseases are addressed, from the most frequent ones such as acne, different types of alopecia, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, skin infections or the preventive approach to naevus (moles); the management of rarer and more complex conditions such as autoimmune diseases and blisters, to the diagnosis and treatment of benign tumors, precancerous lesions or malignant skin tumors.

    Pathologies

    Alopecia

Scalp disorders are highly variable, many of them common to the rest of the body. Hair problems and specifically its lower density or absence are a common cause of concern in our consultations. In recent years, new treatments and techniques have been used that can, in many cases, help us stop or even recover some of the lost hair.

    Acne

Acne is an inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit, most prevalent during adolescence, but which can also appear in adulthood, being in the latter case more common in women than in men. Its causes are due to multiple factors and it is important to have a correct diagnosis and early treatment appropriate to the severity and type of injuries presented by each patient. In this way, the symptoms associated with the acute outbreak can be avoided as well as prevent sequelae such as scars that have long-term aesthetic repercussions.

    Psoriasis

Psoriasis is one of the most common skin diseases that affects 2.3% of the population. It is characterized by the appearance of lesions on the elbows, knees and scalp. In up to 10% of cases it can affect the joints, causing inflammation and pain. It is also a risk factor for obesity, diabetes mellitus II, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. For all these reasons, early diagnosis is very important, since we currently have many therapeutic alternatives to keep the disease under control: from the application of topical, oral, and physical measures (phototherapy) to the latest biological drugs.

    Autoimmune diseases

Autoimmune diseases are due to our own immune system attacking healthy cells in our body, including those in the skin. The skin manifestations are varied and can sometimes be the first symptom that makes us suspect a systemic disease. Among the most common are vitiligo, where white spots appear in different areas of the body. Other autoimmune diseases with possible skin involvement would be celiac disease, scleroderma, dermatomyositis or blistering diseases such as pemphigus or pemphigoid. Dermatologists, coordinated with other specialists, will try to reduce autoimmune activity with immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory drugs.

Nevus, precancerous lesions and skin tumors

Dermatologists carry out reviews of pigmented lesions such as nevi and lentigines in order to diagnose lesions with malignant potential as soon as possible, using the dermoscopy technique, which allows high diagnostic precision in the detection of dangerous lesions. We are also responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of skin tumors such as melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, among others, the latter being the most common type of cancer in the entire body in the general population. Likewise, we diagnose precancerous lesions such as actinic keratoses and their elimination through topical treatment or cryotherapy.

    Atopic dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis represents one of the most common diseases in dermatology consultations. It can occur both in children and as a new onset in adults. There is a heritable genetic predisposition that predetermines drier and more fragile skin and also external factors that precipitate the appearance of outbreaks (stress, infections, etc.). Patients present intermittent outbreaks of lesions that produce very intense itching, with a significant alteration in quality of life. Treatment is based on moisturizers and different topical and oral medications. Nowadays, new biological therapies are appearing that are changing the management of our patients.

    Aesthetic Dermatology

In recent decades there has been an increase in the care of body and facial image by the general population, which is why more patients come to our consultations seeking the elimination or attenuation of skin lesions or alterations associated with age. Before removing or treating any skin lesion, a dermatologist should diagnose these lesions, ruling out their possible malignant potential. Thanks to different techniques such as cryotherapy, electrocoagulation or small surgical interventions, we can achieve an improvement in the appearance of our patients with minimal risk.

    pediatric dermatology

Pediatric dermatology is a branch of dermatology that is based on the study, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases that affect the skin of children. Since children's skin is different, it requires specialized attention and treatments different from those we use in adults to cure their skin pathologies. Among the most common conditions in childhood are seborrheic, atopic dermatitis and diaper dermatitis. Infections are also very prevalent such as warts, molluscum contagiosum, impetigo or hand-foot-mouth disease.

    Phototherapy

    Phototherapy

Phototherapy is a type of physical therapy that uses the anti-inflammatory capacity of ultraviolet (UV) radiation to treat different skin conditions such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo or pruritus when the usual treatments are insufficient. We will select the type of UV light to use individually depending on the type of pathology.

From the classic UVA, which penetrates deeper into the skin, to the more modern narrow-band UVB that produces an effect in more superficial layers, with the aim of obtaining the most appropriate response for each case.
