The University Hospitals of Torrevieja and Vinalopó receive accreditation for drug research

    • This national accreditation implies a correct performance of clinical research with medicines in hospitals

The Research Ethics Committee (CEI) of the university hospitals of Torrevieja and Vinalopó, belonging to Ribera Salud, has received accreditation from the General Directorate of Pharmacy and Health Products of the Ministry of Universal Health and Public Health as CEIm (Medicine Research Ethics Committee), thus adapting to current legislation.

The objective of this accreditation is to correctly carry out clinical research with drugs. Besides It represents a further step in the fulfillment of guarantees when carrying out research with medicines and medical devices and an adaptation to the new legislation that obliges the former Clinical Research Ethics Committees (CEIC) to obtain accreditation as CEIm.

The CEIm is an independent body with a multidisciplinary composition accredited according to RD 1090/2015, whose main purpose is to ensure the protection of the rights, safety and well-being of the subjects who participate in a biomedical research project, clinical study with drugs or a clinical investigation with medical devices and offer a public guarantee in this regard by means of an opinion on the corresponding documentation, taking the patients into account.

Dr. Eduardo Cazorla, president of the CEIM, assures that "The CEIm of the University Hospitals of Torrevieja and Vinalopó watches over all those investigations that are carried out in the Health Departments in accordance with current national and international regulations."

Clinical research with drugs must be carried out within international regulations that guarantees the protection of the people who participate in it and the dignity of the human being. The existence of the CEIm makes it possible to independently assess clinical research protocols with medicines, health products or biomedical studies and establish an opinion that allows their development at a national level. It also monitors the studies and reviews the scientific quality of the researchers.

The composition of the CEIm is developed in RD 1090/2015 with a minimum of 10 components of both health and non-health professionals, defined and approved within the Committee's Standard Working Procedure.

In 2017, the CEIC of the University Hospitals of Torrevieja and Vinalopó evaluated a total of 21 studies and 10 clinical trials and monitored the studies that are being carried out in our departments.
