- The hospitals of Vinalopó and Denia are the public health centers that include the most women in their screenings to detect cases of gender violence, 12.237, and carry out 22,5% of the total controls in this autonomy
- Vinalopó, with more than 7.660 screened women, almost doubles the rest of the hospitals directly managed by the Ministry of Health
The two hospitals managed by the Ribera healthcare group in the Valencian Community, the Vinalopó University Hospital and the hospital of Denia, carried out in 2002 22,5% of the total screening carried out in 24 public health centers to detect possible cases of gender violence. In total, only the two hospitals in the Ribera group have included 12.237 women in their screenings, and 146 positive cases have resulted from these controls.
The Vinalopó University Hospital, in Elche, is by far the health center that has included the most women in its screening, 7.660, almost double that of any other hospital in the Valencian Community. Of these controls, 96 positive cases of gender violence have been reported. And in the set of hospitals in the Valencian Community, it is followed in the number of women screened by the other hospital in the group, that of Denia, with a total of 4.577 women, among whom 50 positive cases have been detected.
Both centers have a Social Work Service, which informs, guides and advises patients on matters of gender violence, explaining in detail the specific social resources that exist for these cases, such as active insertion income, remote alarm, the emergency, shelters and the guidance telephone number 016. These units also offer psychosocial support and follow-up to victims of gender violence, as well as referral to the appropriate resources for minors who depend on them. The action is based not only on social intervention, but on carrying out an exhaustive coordination of the case with the relevant services that are most convenient for the woman and her daughters and sons.
On the other hand, from the Sanitary Social Work in both centers, functions are carried out to raise awareness among the professionals, working jointly on the problem from a biopsychosocial point of view and carrying out tasks to prevent violence and promote equality in community.
