The Functional Diversity Plan of four hospitals of the Ribera healthcare group, receives the 2024 Supercaregivers Award

    • The Vinalopó and Torrejón university hospitals, the Ribera Povisa hospital and the Ribera Hospital de Molina give priority to the care of people with visual, auditory, motor or cognitive functional diversity and access with guide dogs is permitted.
    • These health centres have a sound-based notification-call system, have incorporated Braille into the lifts, have a video interpretation system (S-VISUAL), a sound amplification system, telematic notification of appointments via telephone message and pictotranslator, among others.

The health group Ribera received this Monday the Supercaregivers Award its Functional Diversity Plan, which is already implemented in four of its hospitals and will be progressively extended to the rest of the group's health centres. In the context of this plan, the university hospitals of the Vinalopo y Torrejon, Hospital Ribera Povisa (Vigo) and Ribera Hospital of Molina (Murcia) prioritize care for people with auditory, visual, motor or cognitive functional diversity who, in addition, can access the facilities with a guide dog and have systems and technology at their disposal to provide them with the highest quality healthcare.

The Supercaregivers Awards, which in this tenth edition have Their Majesties the King and Queen as honorary presidents, aim to recognise the work of both individuals and legal entities for their work and actions aimed at improving the quality of life of the elderly, people who suffer from some type of illness or are in a situation of Disability and/or Dependency. They are promoted by the Caregivers Club and by Unir, the university on the Internet and this year's ceremony took place in the Rafael del Pino Auditorium in Madrid. On behalf of the Ribera group, Daniel Castillo, group project coordinator, and Cristina Serra, director of Nursing at the Ribera Povisa hospital, attended to collect the award.

The Ribera Functional Diversity Plan guarantees that the facilities are accessible to all patients, that the care circuits are adapted to their needs and that the staff has been specifically trained to care for these population groups. The four hospitals currently included in this plan have ramps, adapted bathrooms in all areas and adapted examination tables and beds, as well as a patient notification-call system to Nursing in all rooms, next to the bed. It is also guaranteed that the patient can be accompanied at all times by his or her guardian or carer.

In addition, these hospitals have a call-notification system with sounds and Braille on the elevator keypads for people with visual disabilities; a video interpretation system (S-VISUAL), another for sound amplification and telematic notification of patient appointments via telephone message for people with hearing disabilities and a Pictotranslator for people with speech difficulties. A multitude of training actions have also been carried out for healthcare and admissions staff, which facilitate communication with these patients.

The group's Healthcare Management explains that "it is a living plan, so it has been advancing since its launch in 2017 in favour of the adaptation of the groups that need it, currently forming a very complete, diverse project that meets the special needs of a multitude of users." Both in the initial planning and in the subsequent extensions, a team of around 20 people with different profiles is involved - healthcare, admission, quality, infrastructure, systems, communication - "in addition to the interlocutors of the different associations with which we work through patient councils and other actions in these hospitals."
