ENAC has granted the Central Clinical Laboratory of the Community of Madrid the renewal of the accreditation of technical competence in accordance with the criteria included in the UNE ISO 15189:2013 standard. With this renewal, the quality accreditation is maintained until November 2020
The Central Clinical Laboratory under the Ministry of Health of Madrid, located at Hospital Universitario Infanta Sofía and managed by BR Salud, has obtained the renewal of the ENAC accreditation in accordance with the UNE-ISO 15189:2013 standard. It is a specific international standard for clinical laboratories and that not only certifies, but also accredits technical competence and therefore the reliability of its results.
Said accreditation was granted in 2015 and this 2019 renewal is the fourth, expanding coverage to a scope that already exceeds 89% of the activity carried out in the Central Laboratory. In this way, it has become a practically unique laboratory in terms of scope and volume of accredited activity both in the Community of Madrid and at a national level.
According to Fernando Cava, technical director of the Laboratory, "it is an important quality accreditation that is renewed at a crucial moment for the Central Clinical Laboratory, and that demonstrates our responsibility as managers with the hospitals, professionals and citizens of the Community of Madrid , for whom we have been working for 10 years, with the commitment to contribute to caring for and improving their health”.
In the laboratory managed by BR Salud, the commitment to quality began from the beginning of its activities, with the implementation and development of a quality management system, which in 2013 was certified by the ISO 9001:2008 standard. , with a scope that covered all activities and all laboratories (both central and continuous care). This certification has been updated to the 2015 version and successfully renewed in all subsequent years.
The accreditation process entails an exhaustive evaluation of the management and technical requirements of the laboratory, such as: the qualification of the personnel, the equipment and the necessary infrastructures, if it applies validated and appropriate work methods and procedures and if it ensures the traceability of the measurements and calibrations. That is, it supposes formal and public recognition of technical competence.
BR Salud is the management company of the Central Clinical Laboratory, formed by the Ribera Salud group and Unilabs. This 'analytical ring' is made up of a Central Laboratory at the Infanta Sofía Hospital in San Sebastián de los Reyes and six peripheral laboratories. BR salud provides services to six Madrid public hospitals (Infanta Sofía, Infanta Leonor, Henares, Infanta Cristina, Sureste and Tajo) and three Primary Care Assistance Directorates (North, South and Southeast), with more than 150 health centers, local clinics , residences and others, with a current assigned population of 1.248.992 citizens.
