El Ribera healthcare group it has incorporated three new hospitals and created three specialized healthcare divisions throughout 2021, thus confirming its commitment to growth and diversification of its responsible healthcare model. Ribera Hospital of Molina (Murcia) and hospitals Riverside Juan Cardona (Ferrol) and the Hospital de Denia They are already part of this health organization, which has a total of nine hospitals and 41 primary care centers, and employs more than 6.000 professionals, who guarantee health care to more than one million patients a year. Ribera was already part of the shareholding of the Denia Hospital with 35%, but in 2021 it has proceeded to purchase all the shares.
In addition, the group has made progress in its commitment to strategic diversification, with the creation of three new specialized healthcare divisions, Aesthetic Riverside, Ribera Tooth y Minds, which has resulted in the opening of clinics and specialized consultations for the first two, in a first phase, in Galicia and Extremadura, which will be extended to other Spanish regions where it is present. Minds, for its part, is a digital emotional well-being program, with the guarantee of permanent accompaniment by a therapist, who, in addition to video consultations and chat with the patient, provides all kinds of resources for personalized and effective treatment.
Hyper-specialization is undoubtedly a characteristic feature of Ribera, as demonstrated by the rapid positioning of its Breast Area, as a national and international reference in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies of the breast, especially the breast cancer. Not surprisingly, his team of professionals is a pioneer in revolutionary techniques and treatments such as 3D nipple tattoo, the contrast mammography, the rapid biopsy and the genetic signature at the time of diagnosis confirmation, among other advances. And thanks to the signing of the strategic agreement with the International Breast Cancer Center (IBCC) is now also a leader in clinical trials, research, and innovative cancer medicines.
Under this umbrella of specialization and transversality, Ribera has also launched the brain damage unit and functional recovery of Ribera Polusa hospital, the only one in Galicia, and new Traffic Accident and Sports Medicine Units in several of its private hospitals, responding to an increase in demand in these areas.
2021 has been another year marked by the Covid pandemic, as it already happened in 2020. However, the CEO of the Ribera group, Elisa Tarazona, has highlighted that "all the health centers of the Ribera group have maintained care activity at all times , guaranteed health care, both Covid and non-Covid, to all citizens in the area of its hospitals, as well as the operation of its operating rooms ”. Interventions have not been suspended. Only when it has been necessary, have the agendas been readjusted, always guaranteeing care and the shortest waiting times, as shown by the management reports, in the case of health concessions such as those of the Vinalopó University Hospital, with the lowest waiting lists in the entire Valencian Community.
Investment in technology and innovation
Ribera's growth has not only resulted in the incorporation of three hospitals and the birth of two specialized services. Equipment and facilities have also been renovated. More than 7 million euros have been invested in technology for diagnosis and cancer treatment in its hospitals, such as the new PET-CT and resonance imaging at Hospital del Vinalopó, the CT scan at Ribera Hospital in Molina or the new accelerator for Ribera Povisa; and around 4,5 million in infrastructure remodeling. Of note is the renovation of the Ribera Povisa façade, its new Dialysis Unit and the 22 new consultation rooms on the ground floor of the health center, as well as the remodeling in Ribera Polusa and Ribera Almendralejo.
In addition, only in 2021 the health group has received 35% of the budget of the II call for Aid for R+D+i research in Primary Care from Fisabio in the Valencian Community, where it manages two health departments, the hospital in Torrejon, which it also manages under concession, has received a Dexeus grant for the study of diabetes in pregnancy, and Ribera Hospital de Molina has published studies on malnutrition in hospitalized patients and on the transparency of health organizations.
This has also been a great year for the technological division of the healthcare group, futuRS, which has almost doubled its workforce this year, has launched new offices in Madrid and initiatives in the United States and the United Kingdom that will mean that, in a few months, 50% of its workforce will work for international projects from Spain. In addition, Ribera has renewed and extended the agreement with Shuttle, Juan Roig's startup accelerator, for its Corporate co-innovation program, which has already involved the launch of nine pilot projects with applications and platforms to improve patient monitoring and care, with patient telemonitoring projects, a virtual caregiver and online psychological therapy, among others. In addition, he has become a founding partner of the Lanzadera Health Innovation Hub and the Madrid e-Health Cluster.
In the race for success is also its laboratory division, Ribera Lab, already integrated into three Ribera hospitals, which this year inaugurated a new central laboratory with three floors and 2.700 square meters in Torrellano (Elche), performs more than 350.000 determinations and has confirmed its commitment to specialization in genetic diagnosis, thanks to the strong investment in cutting-edge technology.
