- A Coruña now has its first two major outpatient surgery operating rooms in the city.
- The investment in the center's renovation amounts to 2,6 million euros.
- The surgical block has 2 operating rooms and 7 PACU (post-anesthesia resuscitation unit) positions.
The Assistens Medical Center, located in the Matogrande neighborhood, has received authorization from the Regional Ministry of Health for the city's first two major outpatient surgery operating rooms (CMA). This milestone will allow patients and professionals to benefit from faster, safer, and more convenient surgical care, with same-day discharge and return home.
The €2,6 million investment has allowed for the complete renovation and modernization of the facilities, incorporating two state-of-the-art operating rooms and seven stations in the Post-Anesthesia Resuscitation Unit (PARU), all equipped with advanced technology to perform interventions ranging from minor dermatological surgeries to more complex procedures such as shoulder arthroscopies or cataract surgeries.
Advantages for patients and professionals
- Greater agility in scheduling interventions.
- Reduction in waiting lists thanks to the optimization of surgical times.
- Same-day discharge and recovery at home.
- 24-hour post-discharge follow-up and care program, ensuring patient safety and well-being.
"With this expansion, we're not only taking a technological and healthcare leap forward, but we're also bringing a more humane, efficient, and comfortable surgical model to the public," explains Dr. Manuel Ojén, Medical Director of Assistens Medical Center.
The outpatient major surgery model combines the safety and effectiveness of hospital surgery with the convenience of home recovery, promoting a rapid return to daily life and optimizing healthcare resources.
