The health group Ribera has expanded the implementation of the color identification system ColorADD to three new hospitals, Virgin of Charity River, Ribera Polusa y Riverside Juan Cardona, within the framework of its corporate strategy for functional diversity and its commitment to increasingly humanized care.
With these additions, the project —already present in the university hospitals of Torrejon (Madrid) and Vinalopo (Elche), as well as in the hospital Ribera Povisa (Vigo) — takes another step in its deployment within the group's healthcare network, consolidating a model that integrates universal accessibility into the patient experience.
ColorADD, known as the "color alphabet," is a visual coding system designed to facilitate color identification for people with color blindness. Its application in healthcare settings allows for clearer interpretation of signage, internal wayfinding, and other informational elements that typically use color as their primary communication tool.
In the hospital setting, where color codes are integral to the organization of spaces, care pathways, and patient communication, this adaptation represents a significant step forward in terms of autonomy, safety, and environmental awareness for people with color blindness. Furthermore, it helps raise awareness of a sensory condition that is not readily apparent but has a direct impact on the daily lives of those who experience it.
Until the initial implementation of this system in the group's first centers, fully accessible healthcare for colorblind individuals in Spain was still limited. With its expansion across the group's hospitals, Ribera reinforces its position as a leading healthcare group in incorporating inclusive solutions within its network.
ColorADD is present in numerous countries and sectors—from public transport to product design, education, and leisure—and its adoption in the healthcare sector continues to grow as a tool to support universal accessibility. With full implementation in six Ribera hospitals, the group is progressing toward its goal of gradually extending this system to all its centers, in line with its commitment to functional diversity in all its dimensions.
