The Ribera Povisa Hospital presents the 'Rhythms of Life' campaign with the first arrhythmic metronome in history to raise awareness about heart problems

  • “Rhythms of Life” is endorsed by the professionals of the Heart Area of the Ribera Group and has a unique metronome, which follows the rhythm of the heartbeat of a patient with cardiovascular disease.
  • The initiative was presented at the Ribera Povisa Hospital with a round table in which specialist professionals spoke about heart care at all stages of life and the benefits of music for health

The Ribera Povisa Hospital today presented the “Rhythms of Life” campaign, in which health and music go hand in hand, to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases with a round table in which renowned professionals who are experts in the area of the heart participated, and with the inauguration of a unique exhibition in the center's lobby: the first arrhythmic metronome in history.

The Ribera Group has promoted the manufacture of a very special metronome, which follows the “rhythm” of a sick heart, specifically the heart of Adrián, a patient with arrhythmia, and which is the axis of all the initiatives linked to this action. health awareness and education.

The care director of the Ribera Povisa Hospital, Dr. Sonsoles Leal, was in charge of opening the day that began with a round table in which they talked about heart care at all stages of life and the benefits of music for health, and which included the participation of Juan Carlos Arias, head of the Cardiology service at the Ribera Povisa Hospital, Marta Ubiaga, nurse at the Arrhythmia Unit at the Ribera Povisa Hospital, and Miguel Ángel Piñón, cardiac surgeon at the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital . Vicente Roig, nurse coordinator of the heart area of the Ribera Group, moderated the table.

Next, the lobby of the Ribera Povisa Hospital became a stage to host the live musical performance of Manu Escudero, a singer-songwriter from Vigo, with three albums on the market, who seeks to inspire optimism and hope in his songs, deeply committed to the injustices and social awareness.

The event, attended by several patient associations, concluded with the inauguration of the exhibition of the unique arrhythmic metronome at the entrance to the Ribera Povisa Hospital, after touring the group's other centers throughout Spain. The metronome will be on display for the general public until November 28.

The bell

Ribera has worked on this initiative with Maart Agency, responsible for the creative idea, and with Estudio Espadaysantacruz, manufacturer of the personalized arrhythmic metronome. The axis of the campaign is that both the heart and the “tempo” of the compositions, in music, are measured the same, in beats per minute (beats per minute or BPM). For this reason, this “special” metronome has been manufactured: it is the means that musicians use to measure tempo.

The objective of "Rhythms of Life" is to raise awareness about cardiovascular problems to help prevent them. For this reason, the initiatives included in the campaign are open to all health centers, beyond Ribera's own: the exhibition of the singular metronome will be able to travel to different places, and the compositions created by musicians from different origins, to the rhythm of Adrián's heart.

Cardiovascular diseases are currently the main cause of death in the world. More than 17 million people die each year from cardiac disease and it is estimated that in 2030 there will be 23 million. Specifically in Spain, 250 people die every day from heart disease. That is why those responsible for the Heart Area of the Ribera group, the cardiovascular network of interhospital collaboration made up of professionals from the university hospitals of Vinalopó and Torrejón, the Denia hospital and the Ribera Povisa hospital, consider actions related to prevention, education and health care to address the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and detect any abnormalities in this organ system in time.
