Breast Unit of the University Hospital of Torrejón

With a comprehensive approach, the Breast Unit of the Torrejón University Hospital offers complete solutions to patients, from the moment the suspicion of a pathology is detected until the post-treatment check-ups are completed. The team of professionals, made up of the Surgery, Oncology, Gynecology, Radiation Oncology, Radiodiagnosis, Rehabilitation and Pathological Anatomy services, works focused on offering solutions to each woman that best suit her personal circumstances.

The objective of the unit is to offer higher quality health care at a medical and human level. For this reason, the professionals who are part of it have at their disposal the most innovative and latest-generation technology, to make the priorities of the center's work philosophy a reality:

Diagnosis in 24 hours. The human and technical team of the Breast Unit of the University Hospital of Torrejón has the capacity to diagnose in a period of 24 hours in the event of any suspicion on the part of a health professional. In this way, we give women the possibility of deciding if they want to know the result of their radiological tests on the same day they have been performed or go to the hospital the next day accompanied by a person from their environment.

3D contrast mammography. One of the applications of technological innovation in this area is the availability of a 3D contrast-enhanced mammograph since October 2019 at the Madrid hospital, one of the few health centers in the Community of Madrid with this technology. It makes it possible to detect hidden tumors in dense breasts or breasts that are difficult to interpret because they have undergone treatment, and to perform tomosynthesis biopsies. The sensitivity of this technique is close to 100%, and it is very similar to magnetic resonance, which provides women who have had breast cancer with the maximum guarantees that no other lesion, no matter how small, has appeared. In addition, this mammograph is very important for all those patients who, due to different circumstances, cannot enter an MRI: patients with claustrophobia, who cannot turn upside down, who suffer from some type of dementia, cardiac and/or respiratory problems or who have a pacemaker.

Breast reconstruction. The Breast Unit performs breast reconstruction in the same surgical intervention in which the cancerous tissue is removed. The objective is for the woman to keep her physical integrity intact after the intervention.

Micropigmentation of the nipple-areola complex. The team at the Torrejón University Hospital also offers the possibility of micropigmentation of the nipple-areola complex. It is a tattoo technique on the skin of the reconstructed breast that recreates the shape and color of the nipple-areola complex prior to removal for breast cancer.

3D tattoo. In addition to micropigmentation, the team has the possibility of offering tattoos with a 3D appearance for the reconstruction of the nipple-areola complex. The result is very real and you do not need to go over the area again once it is done.
