Screening programs differ in their starting age. In the Valencian Community they begin at 45 years of age and in Galicia, in the Community of Madrid and in other communities they begin at 50 years of age. However, there is increasing evidence in favor of starting screening at 45 years of age.
If you have a family history, the right thing to do is consult your primary care doctor. Depending on the number of relatives with breast cancer and the age of onset, there are some guide tables that doctors use to indicate whether or not a genetic study is necessary. In the event that the primary care doctor cannot guide you, you can request an appointment at the breast unit where they can inform you
Hereditary family history constitutes only 10% of diagnosed breast cancers. Other factors also have an influence, such as obesity, lack of physical exercise, exposure to ionizing radiation, exposure to chemical substances that act as hormone disruptors (and activate the hormone receptors of certain cancers) or excessive alcohol and tobacco intake.

In two of our centers (Vinalopó and Torrejón) we are monitoring patients with breast cancer with contrast-enhanced mammography, this is almost equivalent to monitoring with MRI, which is a guarantee of early detection of possible recurrences. Alternatively, we can also assess whether follow-up with MRI is a candidate in your case.
